Pennisetum Rubrum
Latin name: Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’
Light: Full sun
Flowering period: July–October
Height: 60–120 cm
Description:
An ornamental grass with deep burgundy-purple foliage and elegant arching flower spikes. Creates movement, softness and dramatic contrast in plantings. Especially striking in wind and evening light.
Where it looks best:
Perfect for large containers, terraces, balconies and garden beds where a tall, elegant accent is desired.
What to combine with:
Pairs well with petunias, lantana, echinacea, calibrachoa and silver foliage plants for modern contrasting combinations.
Care:
Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Heat tolerant and relatively drought tolerant. Regular feeding helps maintain strong colour and vigorous growth.
Overwintering:
❌ Not frost-hardy. Can sometimes be overwintered indoors in a cool bright place, but usually grown as an annual.
